Lessons

It’s never too early or too late to learn how to Cross-Country ski or to improve your technique. The Club has lessons for children, youth and adults including learn to ski programs for beginner and intermediate classes for those who are looking to improve their technique and fitness.

Learn to Tour

The Calgary Ski Club is offering two Learn to Tour classes on Sundays, February 21, 28. Please register by filling out the registration form . Participants will meet at 9:00 a.m. at the parking area at COP (Canada Olympic Drive) on the outer road across from the blue warming/waxing huts at the start of the cross-country ski trails. Carpooling can be arranged at this meeting spot. The class is open to beginner to intermediate skiers who have the ability to ski approximately 10 km and are able to stay under control going down hills. Classes will include: 30 minutes of basic instruction in front of Pocaterra Hut at Peter Lougheed Provincial Park; 1 to 1.5 hours ski; lunch on the trail; and a final ski for 1 to 1.5 hours meeting back at the Pocaterra Hut. Depending on skier ability, the second class may start at the Visitor Center. The cost is $20 for members and $40 for non-members. Jackrabbits

We teach Cross Country Canada’s Jackrabbit Ski Program to children ages 5 to 11. A team of enthusiastic coaches will encourage the learning of basic skiing fundamentals for both skating and classic skiing. Each skier receives an awards booklet and award stickers to track their progress. We take skier and team photos and have a year end party. It’s a fun, family environment and the really great thing about our Jackrabbit programs is that Mom or Dad get to learn how to cross-country ski as well – free of charge!

Starting in October, our Dryland to On Snow Program offers fun outdoor activities for kids to help to prepare them for the winter season. Lectures for parents on topics such as clothing, equipment and waxing are: Nov 3rd, Dec 1st and Dec 8th (6-7pm). November 2nd will include an information session for parents on how to equip and dress their children for the upcoming season; non-members may attend at a cost of $5. December 1st will include a grip waxing information session. Hopefully December 8th we’ll be out on snow!

Youth

Skiers 12-17 years old are invited to join our Track Attack Program. This is a Cross Country Canada sport program focused on promoting the continued development of physical movement and fitness required to excel in the sport while teaching and enhancing basic skills in classic and skating skiing.

Adults

Our popular Learn-to-Ski series is offered in January and February. Our CANSI qualified instructors teach beginners both classic and skating techniques. Classes for intermediate skiers are offered in February.

We have a Dryland Boot Camp for adults focused on improving your strength and flexibility without weight equipment in preparation for the winter season. We are pleased to have Lisa Scott, an AFLCA certified Fitness Instructor with 18 years of experience. She will lead and inspire us to get back into shape for the ski season. Classes are from October to December on Wednesdays from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm.  The location is at Collingwood School, 3826 Collingwood Drive NW. The cost is $8 for members, and $10 for non-members.

Women's Ski Class

Join a women’s only intermediate cross country lesson that will take place on Friday mornings at Canada Olympic Park for four consecutive weeks in January. The lessons will focus on stretching and Skate skiing instruction at the intermediate level (this class is not for beginners).
