Downhill LessonsIn order to truly enjoy your first Downhill Experience without making a large financial commitment, the following lessons are recommended (offered by COP or any resort close to Calgary):
Cross-Country LessonsWe have something for everyone from ages 5-105, beginner skiers and up. Cross-country skiing is a sport that all ages and abilities can take part in. The Calgary Ski Club invites you, your family and friends to get out and enjoy our cross-country skiing programs this winter. Don’t forget, cross-country skiing is one of the most cost-effective winter sports – there are no expensive lift tickets! Lessons - Full range of skiing and dryland conditioning opportunities! Night lessons are located at Canada Olympic Park (COP) (COP weather reports) and Shaganappi Golf Course. Weekend lessons are primarily in Peter Lougheed, and Banff National Park (Lake Louise). The first program starts Oct 6th (dryland) until March 9th. There are 3 ways to register for lessons:
Please select one of the following links for the program category of interest below: Adult ProgramsIndoor/Outdoor Adult Boot Camp For Cross-Country and Downhill skiers and Snowshoers. Improve your strength and flexibility (without weight equipment) in preparation for the winter season. Lisa Scott, an AFLCA certified Fitness Instructor with 18 years of experience is leading this get back into shape program. Dates: Every Wednesday, October 7 to December 9 Learn-to-Classic This program is targeted at beginner Cross-Country skiers (have never skied or ski at a beginner level) to teach them the basics of classic cross-country skiing. Basic application of grip wax will also be covered. January session dates: Every Tuesday, January 5 - 26 (4 Weeks) February session dates: Every Tuesday, February 2 - 23 (4 Weeks) Intermediate Skate Skiing (Women Only) The lessons will focus on skate skiing instruction and incorporate some strength and stretching. Skiers are expected to be at an intermediate level in classic skiing (this class is not for beginners skiers). Dates: Every Friday, January 8 - 29 (4 Weeks) NEW!! Learn to Loppet SOLD OUT Together with the University of Calgary Athletic Department, we are offering a Learn to Loppet course Oct 6th-March 9th. No previous ski experience necessary. Dates: Tuesdays- Oct 6th-March 9th excluding Dec 22, 29 Youth ProgramsOur youth programs are aimed at teens 13 - 17 years old. Youth I For teenagers 13-17 years old, ranging from beginners to intermediates. Classic Cross-Country skiing will be taught. Participants are encouraged to also enroll in Youth II in February (see below). Dates: Every Thursday, January 7 - 28 (4 Weeks) Youth II For teenagers 13-17 years old, ranging from beginners to intermediates. Skating cross-country skiing will be taught. Participants are recommended to have enrolled in Youth I in January (see above). Dates: Every Thursday, February 4 - 25 (4 Weeks) Jackrabbits ProgramsOur Jackrabbit programs are aimed at children 5 - 12 years old. Dryland to On-snow This is a great way to get to know your fellow skiing families and a bit more about the sport before the snow flies. There are 4 sessions: the first 3 will be 'dryland training' for the kids and a separate info night for parents; the last will be on-snow at Shaganappi Golf Course (weather & conditions dependent). Dates: Tuesday, October 13th, Nov 3rd, Dec 1st, Dec 8th Jackrabbits I (Classic technique) For 5-12 year olds. Will focus on classic cross-country skiing only. Participants will be divided into groups depending on age and ability. If your child has never skied before, Jackrabbits I is a excellent way to introduce them to cross-country skiing. Dates: Every Tuesday, January 5 - February 23 (8 Weeks) Jackrabbits II (Skating technique) For 5-12 year olds. Focus on skating cross-country skiing only. Prerequisite: Jackrabbits I.
