Transportation and Safety
- Meeting Time
-
For any trip, the meeting time is the departure time, and you should arrive
about 10 minutes before departure time.
- Socializing
-
After our hikes, it is customary to stop on the way home at an eatery of choice.
- Car Pooling
-
Day trips proceed to the trailhead by car-pool. Hikers are encouraged to
carpool with others roughly the same hiking ability. People with cars are
expected to take turns driving and passengers are expected to pay the driver
a reasonable amount. Discuss return times before car pooling.
- Coordinators
-
Coordinators are not trained professionals, they simply know the
route/trail to direct the way. Coordinators may cancel or redirect a hike if
conditions are unsuitable. They may refuse to allow someone to go on a hike
if they feel that person does not have the proper equipment or skills, and
to ask a person to go back if it is unsafe for them to continue. If a person
ignores the coordinator's advice, that person is no longer considered a
participant in that hike.
- Rescue Costs
-
The Parks now often charge to evacuate people from the
backcountry in an emergency. Club policy is that any such expense is the
hike-participant's responsibility and not the Club's. The Club merely
organizes events.
Each participant, as a Common Adventurer, is responsible for ensuring
his/her own safety and for covering any expenses incurred.
