From its humble start in the Club President's basement over 50 years ago, the ski sale has grown to be the largest event of its kind in Canada, widely anticipated by skiers looking for bargains. The ski sale is co-hosted by the local Canadian Ski Patrol and the Lake Louise Ski Club.

2021 Calgary New & Used Ski Sale cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns.
The organizers of the 2021 Calgary New & Used Ski Sale, scheduled for October 22 to 24, have very reluctantly chosen to cancel the Sale due to increasing COVID-19-related safety concerns and significant venue-related logistical challenges. The health of our patrons, consigners and volunteers is always our priority. The recent sharp increase in COVID-19 infections and rising uncertainty about what measures might have to be in place or prudently should be in place to protect our patrons and volunteers, including attendance limitations and distancing requirements, created unacceptable risk. Additionally, we were grappling with utilizing an unfamiliar venue after the City of Calgary announced in June our home of 20 years, the Max Bell Centre, would be closed for renovations until 2022. Based on health concerns, attendance concerns, and significant logistical challenges, we concluded that cancelling the 2021 event was prudent. The decision was reached unanimously by the Sale's management committee following announcements of cancellations involving similar events in Toronto and Quebec.
We are now turning our attention to planning for the 2022 Calgary New & Used Ski Sale, which will be held October 28 to 30, 2022, with consignment on the evenings of October 26 and 27. Updates and information on our plans and the 2022 sale will be available our Facebook page or our website, www.skisale.ca.
The Calgary New & Used Ski Sale, Canada's largest ski sale, organized and held since 1963, is a crucial fundraiser for three Calgary non-profit charitable clubs; the Calgary Ski Club, the Canadian Ski Patrol – Calgary Zone, and the Lake Louise Ski Club. We welcome 10,000 patrons over three days to access 20,000 consigned skis, boots, snowboards, Nordic equipment, winter clothing and related gear worth an aggregate of $2 million. Proceeds support and enable the Calgary region's ski and snowboard community.

Update June 30th 2021 - Max Bell Upgrade + Venue Change for 2021 -
We were recently informed that the Max Bell Centre is undergoing a major renovation, and that the facility will not be open to events until early next year. CNUSS leadership and operations are actively looking into other venue options; there are a variety of facilities in Calgary that we feel could meet our needs. When we have additional information, we will be sure to share. One thing is for sure: we are working hard to organize and execute a great event in October 2021 that meets the needs of the public, consigners, our terrific volunteers, and the non-profit clubs that sponsor the sale. No group runs a better ski sale than the Calgary New & Used Ski Sale!
The good news is that come 2022, the Max Bell Arena will have been upgraded, including new lighting and a new lobby! Details can be found here:
Potential COVID Restrictions
As announced on May 26, Alberta's "Open for Summer" plan has made us confident that the sale will be able to proceed with few restrictions (potentially no restrictions, if we're really optimistic!). We will continue to update everyone as we get closer to the sale; we all know that the situation can seemingly turn on a dime, particularly with variants in the mix. As always, the safety and comfort of our volunteers and patrons is our number one priority.

While several committees meet year-round to organize this event, the work begins in earnest a few weeks before the Sale.
Banners are installed at 8 high traffic locations around the City several weeks before the Sale. Then we test our cabling network and install new cables where necessary. Equipment is moved from storage, the arena is set up to receive consignments from the public and ski shops. Items are appraised or scanned, and inventory is placed on the sales floor.
Then cashiers, ticket wickets, safety, information security, food, public relations, and more come together to make the Sale a success. There is a job for everyone, and in most cases, little or no training is required. Then we have to dismantle everything and move it into storage for next year.

SO WHAT'S IN IT FOR ME
- As a Calgary Ski club member, this Sale pays for administration and subsidizes events and trips. We need people to volunteer to meet our commitment and receive our share of funding.
- Volunteers get access to a pre-sale on Thursday evening after setup and inventory is complete.
- We reward Ski Club members who volunteer, 15 volunteer points for each hour worked, which may be used to pay for Ski Club events. 1 point = 1 dollar. Volunteering Pays
