Join us for One of the Most Scenic Outings in Western Canada!
Our Thursday am to Sunday pm excursion will include carpooling up the Columbia Icefields Parkway to our home away from home in Jasper - the Jasper House Bungalows. We plan to do moderate hikes along the way including stopping to hike near the Columbia Icefield (Toe of the Athabasca Glacier + Forefield Trail) on our way to Jasper. Followed by day hikes such as Edith Cavall Meadows (if we are able to get access passes) and Maligne Lake. On the drive back to Calgary we will also stop for another optional Columbia Icefields parkway hike such as Helen Lake. While in Jasper, we'll enjoy the stunning nature, a welcome dinner at the Elk Village restaurant on site and lots of nature!
An optional Miette Hot Springs visit for those interested is likely on Friday or Saturday evening as well as optional group dinners at local Jasper restaurants each night. Bagged lunches will be provided for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Participants will be responsible to provide their own breakfasts each day (rooms have mini fridges) and dinners aside from Thursday night's welcome get-together.
Carpooling and room sharing (300 sf rooms with two double beds) are encouraged.
But proof of full COVID vaccination is required prior to our trip!
All skill levels are welcome (hike difficulty will be easy to moderate throughout).
Participant costs will be $295/person for shared accommodations for 3 nights or $610 for your own room.

As well, participants are required to provide your own park pass ($10/day), supply your own meals other than the welcome dinner and three bagged lunches provided by Calgary Ski Club, and contribute to mileage for the driver of the car you travel in.
A more detailed itinerary will be emailed to all participants for review and input at our pre-trip Zoom call in late August or early September. Prior to this, the trip co-leaders will also send out information as appropriate via email to all registered participants.

Your volunteer trip co-leaders (Cindy Skrukwa and Lori Davidson) will help you arrange for a same-sex roommate if needed. As well, Cindy and Lori will host a pre-trip Zoom call, in late August or early September, for everyone to introduce themselves, agree on carpooling, confirm room-sharing, and review the planned itinerary, keeping in mind that weather conditions may result in hike changes, although all hikes are intended to be easy to moderate in difficulty. (If you are a hard-core mountaineer and want to wander off to more difficult terrain you will be welcome to do so on your own, at your own risk, and without the Calgary Ski Club's trip leadership).
Participant Costs and Payment:
To register you will be required to pay $295 if sharing a room or $610 if you want your own room, using a credit card, Calgary Ski Club points or a combination of the two. This will cover your lodging costs in full and is refundable if you cancel before July 15th. If you cancel anytime on July 16th through to September 1st, you will be refunded the amount you have paid minus a $100 cancellation fee. At any time after September 1st, you will forfeit your entire trip payment if you cancel unless the trip is cancelled due to a provincial government COVID shutdown mandate. If you wish to pursue trip cancellation insurance to cover any other causes of cancellation - you need to do that on your own.
Additional Participant Costs:
We encourage carpooling and expect all participants who are not driving to provide the driver with a minimum of a shared $0.06 per km mileage contribution ($50) plus an equal share of the actual gas cost divided by all individuals sharing the car including the driver. E.g.; If there are 4 people in your car including the driver each pays 1/4 of the gas cost and 3 passengers split the $50/car wear and tear fee. If driver plus one are ride-sharing, then the passenger provides the driver with 1/2 of the gas cost plus $50.
All participants are also required to pay for their own park pass which can be purchased online at a cost of $10/adult/day.
The Calgary Ski Club is happy to support our trip via the provision of food at our welcome dinner (drinks are your responsibility) and bagged lunches for our Friday, Saturday and Sunday hikes. All other meals are the responsibility of each participant, however, a restaurant in Jasper will be selected each night for participants to join in at a group dinner if desired. All Jasper House Bungalows have mini fridges and some have kitchenettes, which Lori and Cindy can help you to secure at an additional cost if desired.
Optional Miette Hot Springs entry fee of $7.50 per adult plus $10 carpooling contribution to driver should you choose to attend the optional Meitte Hot Springs visit.
(Due to the shortage of Lifeguards, the Hot Springs are closed for the 2021 season and will reopen in 2022.)
Spending money for any other incidentals or voluntary excursions is the sole responsibility of the participant.
NO PETS are allowed on this trip.
PROOF OF COVID VACCINATION WILL BE REQUIRED PRIOR TO DEPARTURE.
ALL CANCELLATIONS ON OR AFTER JULY 16TH ARE SUBJECT TO A $100 PER PERSON CANCELLATION FEE AND CANCELLATIONS ON OR AFTER SEPTEMBER 2ND ARE SUBJECT TO A 100% LODGING CANCELLATION FEE UNLESS ANOTHER CALGARY SKI CLUB MEMBER AGREES TO TAKE OVER YOUR SPOT ON THE TRIP.
